"... it brings to us 5 tracks of an amazing and powerful metal with clear trash and death metal influences from the 80's. I could also see a lot of experimental stuff on their work. Another good band showing us that metal can be enovated without ruining it's essence. You just have to be creative enought to turn something that was used years ago and make it sound current. That's the only way to keep metal alive!

The bass line is very strong in all songs merging perfectly with death metal riffs and gutural vocals in Obituary style."

"L.P.M. steht fuer "Latent Pattern Maintenance" und ist der Titel des neuesten Werkes des sueddeutschen Quartetts. Die Lektion dauert diesmal 5 Songs und ist beeindruckend.

Technisch auf ganz hohem Niveau liegen die Stuecke, die sich intensiv in die Ohrmuschel fraesen. Mit der Genauigkeit eines CNC-Schleifers wird aus Altmetal ein originelles Neo-Thrash-Death Meisterstueck geformt. Nichts bleibt dem Zufall ueberlassen, auch wenn man beim ersten Durchlauf den Eindruck hat, die Ereignisse wuerden sich ueberschlagen. Schon in Runde zwei erkennt man: Die Liebe steckt im Detail. Waghalsige Gitarrenriffs, beissende Stakkatoattacken und unzaehlige Tempiwechsel hinterlassen beim Hoerer blankes Erstaunen.

Alle, die der Profession des Feinmechanikers nachgehen, sollten sich unverzueglich zu einer Fortbildung im Hause Grin anmelden. Who wants some metal?"

"Unter all den Eigenproduktionen, welche nach meinem Urlaub im heimischen Flur lagen, genießt diese CD sicherlich einen Sonderstatus. Solche Musik, wie "Grin" sie auf "L.P.M." fabrizieren, habe ich seit Jahren nicht mehr gehört, d.h. eigentlich seit die meisten Death - Metal - Bands der Meinung sind, daß eine ordentliche Death - Metal - Band gar nicht mehr nach Death - Metal zu klingen hat.

Die auf "L.P.M." vertretenen Lieder hingegen klingen wirklich derb, extrem pervers und schaffen es durch die heftige Produktion so ziemlich alles in Grund und Boden zu "rocken" was ich in der letzten Zeit gehört habe.

Dabei darf man die originäre Art von Grin nicht mit eher langweiligen Kompositionen einer beliebigen, zur Death Metal Hoch - Zeit vertretenen Band vergleichen. Vielmehr dürften die Vorbilder der Band Namen wie "Death" (zu "Leprosy" Zeiten), "Autopsy" und "Protector" ("Urm The Mad") tragen, wobei die progressive, verspielte Art der genialen Atheist (Gott hab sie selig!) und die schrägen Kompositionen von "Atrocity" auf "Hallucinations" sicherlich auch einen überaus starken Einfluß auf die Mucke von Grin gehabt haben dürften.

Denn was auf dieser MCD zelebriert wird, ist nicht nur originür sondern auch absolut einzigartig, vertrackt gespielt. Man höre sich nur einmal die Bassläufe - der Bass wurde absolut gleichwertig laut zur Gitarre abgemischt - an, welche mich immer wieder in Staunen versetzt haben. Wie viele Hände hat die Frau eigentlich? Aber auch der Rest der Band weiß das erstaunlich hohe Niveau zu halten, wobei ich mich allerdings frage, wieso "Grin" in ihrem Bandinfo etwas von "Melodie" faseln? Das Würgen, Röhren, die "Ich-gehe-vor-die-Hunde" - Laute von Sänger M-Cell dürfte auch die letzte Melodie im Song sofort abtöten. Der Mensch klingt echt ziemlich krank!

Alles in allem ein (alp-)traumhaftes Erlebnis, was uns Grin hier bescheren, das unterstützt vom erstklassigen Layout des Booklets einen Pflichkauf für alle Fans der alten Schule bedeutet, die endlich mal wieder eine Platte hören wollen, welche auch noch nach dem zwanzigsten Durchlauf interessant bleibt. Zu haben ist das kleine, ca. 22 minütige Meisterwerk für 15,- DM."

"Yes, I adore such metal always! GRIN are playing natural hateful metal combined by old traditions of thrash and power metal of 80's and some influences from Schuldiner's DEATH. The technique of hold by instruments is just amazing. Sound is exploding per invariable vibrations of double bass, guitar riffs are heavy, melodious and unforeseen, drum's beats and fractions are distinct and manifold. Vocal as it must be in thrash - genuine wicked and hateful (do you remember Mille Petroza?). This 4 piece band during five last years is trying to resurrect thrash metal and it's not something miraculous, 'cause in 80's Teutonic thrash ruled on scene (recall KREATOR, DESTRUCTION, SODOM). GRIN is progressive incarnation of that old metal on the scene 90's. All 5 tracks will please everybody who still adore old school, listen to GRIN, it may help you.

I have listened your stuff and it is really kick ass technical death metal mixed with some old school thrash riffs.You play as technical as a musician can effort. Also you all are one by one really professional musicians as well.What are your musical backgrounds ?

"Britta (bass) is the one in our band with a classical music education. My brother (drums) and I (git) play metal (only!) together since we can think! Always together. I think you can hear that. We played the first years all Metallica songs, and so, you can say that our first "teachers" were James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich :). The band "Death" is another big influence for us. But we are no copies! Over ten years playing together we developped automatically our own special style. Marcel (voc) and Britta play with us for about 5-6 years."

Grin uses some oldschool thrash riffs as well as some groovy death attacks.Where do you plan to forward your musicality by this tunes ? what is your current target ?

"It is a big challenge for us to link straight thrash riffs with hidden complexity only Death metal can do. Our target is clear: Perfectionize this intention. I can't imagine that we ever make other music than this one. Even if we would be the last metal freaks!"
